The Two Sides of Every Story

THE TWO SIDES OF EVERY STORY

By Sandi Roach

You have heard the old adage – a feast or a famine, well for the Pokot it is drought or flood.  This year there is a great deal of rain in many parts of the Rift Valley.  We say, “Praise the Lord”!  And from the standpoint of the crops it would appear to be a blessing, but unfortunately there is always another side to the story.  The rock hard ground cannot absorb the torrential rains, so when they come in deluges it results in severe flooding.  This happened two years ago in November and it is happening again now.  Below is a link to an article from Christian Aid Mission showing some of the damage caused by the flooding; 500 families have been displaced to date.

In addition to the flooding there is the constant danger of illness and the lack of available medications among the Pokot.  We ask that you would pray for the Lord’s protection for the tribe and that the water would provide relief from the famine and would not take lives through disease.  We know that the Lord doesn’t give us more than we can bear, but it seems that the Pokot are constantly facing challenge after challenge – we have to admire their faith to persevere.
