During these tough economic times, it has been a challenge to keep all of our ministries a float. One way that we develop awareness is through Missions Conferences.

At the end of February I got to return to Merritt Island and participate in a Missions Conference at Calvary Chapel – my home away from home. It was great to see everyone, to meet some new missionaries and to hear Don Richardson speak – I almost felt like a missionary groupie! He is such a great writer and speaker and I learned that he is also an artist – God certainly has gifted him!

At the end of April I participated in a 5-day Missions Conference in North Carolina and met some wonderful new people.

On the State front, I have reconnected with a few former co-workers, but there has not been a lot of time for kayaking or too many off-Island activities. I did make it up to Columbia to watch UGA play USC in women’s tennis. UGA won and it was wonderful to see Nadja, the former student from when I was being a house parent. I also got to watch her and her team play their first round matches of the NCAA tournament in Athens, GA a couple of weeks ago.

Last weekend I got to Charleston with my son for the Spoleto festival. We saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater which was a wonderful treat as I have not seen them perform in many years and they did one of my favorite pieces, “Revelation”. It was nice to have time with Chris – he is planning to move to Northern California in the fall and return to school, so I will miss him a lot.

Here on the home front, things have been going well. I continue to be active in the Women’s prayer ministry and we are gearing up for Off the Deep end, which is our summer outreach to the 5th through 8th graders. This will be my third year working with this group and I will be working on games, dock time (we swim in the May River) and EvangeCube training.

I am still involved with the Hilton Head International Ecumenical missions group and am serving on the Board of Inter-America Mission – a local ministry sharing the Gospel with illiterate or low-reading capacity learners. Currently the focus of the ministry is in Central America with the majority of the work occurring in Belize.

I still have a heart for working with the single Mom’s, and we will see if the Lord opens that door.
