How Will They Hear?

In each life there are decisions to make, many of which are difficult.  Pastor Amos B. Singh of India made a decision to serve the Lord many years ago and he has done so faithfully in an area around Ratlam and Daloda in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

In mid-April we received word that this 84 year old pastor had been arrested after some neighbors complained that he was preaching the Gospel.  Kamlesh rushed to his aide and paid the bail that was required to have Pastor Singh released, but this aged warrior of the Lord was devastated.  Never in his years of preaching had he been arrested and his spirit was broken after three days of incarceration.  He sobbed in Kamlesh’s arms and was visibly depressed.  Kamlesh spent three days with him and returned to Ujjain seeking our prayers for protection and a revitalized spirit for the aged pastor.

On April 14th the much loved pastor, father and grandfather went to be with the Lord that he had so faithfully served for so many years.  He leaves behind 3 sons, 3 daughter-in-laws and numerous grandchildren.  Beside his immediate family, he leaves behind many fledgling believers who have lost the one person who fed them the Word of the Lord.

We ask your prayers for the family, for Kamlesh and Ranu and for the many believers who were being discipled by Pastor Singh.  We are praying for someone else to make that hard decision to be the new beautiful feet to the people in the villages around Ratlam.  In addition, we ask that you pray for rain as the conditions have become almost unbearable – in the city of Ujjain they receive water for 15 minutes every 15 days and those times are unannounced, so if they are missed it is another half a month before they receive water again.  We also pray for the month-long election process that the Lord will lift up the party He desires to be in office.  It is our hope for the Christians of India that it will be a leadership more friendly to Christians.

We are sorry that this faithful pastor/teacher has gone to be with the Lord, but we are glad that he is reunited with his wife and we are sure that he will hear, “Well done good and faithful servant”.  We will patiently wait to see who the Lord anoints to fill Pastor Singh’s shoes and we will pray for continued faithfulness and growth among the believers and they struggle under the persecution of the government.
